About A Kaleidoscope Of Australia’s Diversity in Colour and Sound

A Kaleidoscope of Australia’s Diversity in Colour and Sound presented by Mudlark Arts combines a free exhibition of recent collages of Australia’s Landscape and wildlife by Frances Loriente held between August 22 and August 26 at the Bluestone church along with art and music workshops and live performance by locals featuring indigenous icon Bart Willoughby and guests showcasing a diverse set on his percussive instrument the wood skin. Created by Mark Aspen, Willoughby has spent the last 10 years mastering the instrument dedicating a funky song in his last album Resonance Wood skin Funk live playing it along with didgeridoo, base bongos and acoustic guitar, backed upped by some of the Bart Willoughby Band members bringing you a mixture of old and new reggae infused tracks from his extensive uniquely original catalogue of songs. Join Willoughby and guests in the intimate setting of Footscray’s Bluestone church Art Space Two support sets on the day by of performers based in the West Soprano Shuantai Batzke of Indigenous/Asiatic decent with a mix of opera and Jazz and introducing Marcos with his on version of Mediterranean Folk on acoustic guitar


Music Workshop Saturday August 25th 2:30pm-4:30pm:

Percussion leading to multi-instrumental applications. Learn how to use the Wood skin and its many applications. A intensive two hour session were Willoughby will take you through the basic techniques and various sounds you can create with this unique Australian instrument and how it can be used in combination with other instruments to create a one man band or to accompany other artists. Used in combination with guitar, base, and keyboards. Percussion and didgeridoo or on its on this instruments diversity can see it fit and add resonance to many musical genres. Bring your own percussive instruments along, for age’s 12-upward


Art Workshop Saturday August 25th 5:30pm-8:00pm

Colour, Composition and Collage with Frances Loriente Saturday August 25th 5:30-8:pm, a practicing artist for over 25 years, having lived and worked both hear and overseas with works in private collections both in Australia and internationally. She has been a Finalist in The Black Swan Portrait Prize, She and the Xstrata Percival portrait prize, having had 15 solo exhibitions and been part of numerous group exhibitions. Developing a unique and distinctive style over the years as she began her artistic journey as printmaker and sculptor gradually moving to painting multi media and animation in more recent years. Her latest exhibition draws on her strong linear and fragmentation of colour seen in her painting and modelling techniques and returns to an early passion for collage. In a time when we are being asked to re-use and minimise or waste this body of work came about as a result of being drawn to create something out of the brightly coloured packaging she was seeing thrown away into a large recycling skip, whilst pick packing at Yarraville’s Food bank, Join the artist for an early evening adult workshop were she give a floor talk and talks you through the techniques of creating a strong composition with line shape and colour using card, materials provided
