About April: Adelaide Songs / Goldstein

Adelaide Songs

Adelaide Songs

Following a fourth successful Adelaide Fringe season the Adelaide Songs team bring to Stone Pony their iconic and new songs about Adelaide, its quirks, identity, passions and challenges.

Songwriters Paula Standing, Keith Preston, Alan Hartley and Paul Roberts have produced an acclaimed and uniquely evolving show with support from Ashley Turner (Fiddle) and Satomi Ohnishi (Percussion).

Cheeky, funny and serious, they cover it all …our not-so-randy Pandas, the State Bank Collapse, Hindley Street in all its glory, our unique health epidemic… and more… Stormy Summers, Tim-Marcus Clark, Colonel William Light… Adelaide Songs is about them, you and us.

The reviews:

“Go and see this show. It will make you Adelaide Proud.” Carole Whitelock, The Advertiser

“If you love Adelaide, you must hear this.”  David Grybowski, The Barefoot Review ****

“These are talented and thoughtful songwriters and skilled musicians … The enthusiastic response from this audience is an indication that Adelaide Songs continues to delight all those who live in and love this city.” Nicky Titchener Indaily ****

“Adelaide Songs provides a positive, but multifaceted view of this fair city and there’s no question of the quality nor the variety of the songs.” Clayton Werner The Clothesline ****

Adelaide Songs started as a small project aimed at ensuring one of the world’s great cities is immortalised in song. It’s grown into regular appearances at various festivals including the Adelaide Fringe, History Festival, Umbrella and more. The team is now collaborating on a whole new set of songs for a new project – Songs of the Mid North, which will be performed during the History Festival in May 2019.

Since forming in 2006, Australiana folk rockers Goldstein have performed in festivals and front bars across the country roasting the self-centered and championing the everyday heroes.

Energetic, original and ostentatious, the award-winning five-piece plays upbeat tunes about modern life in South Australia from fishing and surfing to bin nights and considerate driving. Their music has earned praise from the likes of Redgum's John Schumann and ABC presenter Peter Goers.

For its Stone Pony performance Goldstein is stripping back and going all out acoustic complete with accordion, violin, acoustic guitars and cajon.

“I love Goldstein’s songs - and I love the fact they sing them in unselfconscious Australian accents. In a world of inconsequential, humourless songs, Goldstein is like a gully wind at the end of a stiflingly hot day.”

John Schumann (Redgum)
