The Hills Whisky Appreciation Course is an introduction into the dynamically expanding world of whisky. Presented in an interesting and engaging way, we will deliver an in-depth tasting showcase of 20 affordable quality whiskies over 4 consecutive weeks. Our aim is to ensure you complete this course with a valued appreciation for whisky, while instilling a self-confidence for selecting or purchasing this spirit.

Class 1 - Sunday 17 May, 2:30pm

Class 2 - Sunday 24 May, 2:30pm

Class 3 - Sunday 31 May, 2:30pm

Class 4 - Sunday 7 June, 2:30pm

Each session runs for approximately 120 minutes 

During the course period we will discuss details from the basics up. We will look at important factors such as nosing and tasting, flavours and profiles, regions and countries, making and maturing the spirit, while developing logical descriptors to help you talk about whisky. The whiskies tasted will range from No Age Statements (NAS) to Age Stated whiskies, Blends to Single Malts, and a range of flavour profiles from whiskies matured in Bourbon casks, Sherry casks and Port casks. On completion of the course you will have tasted whiskies from Scottish regions as well as world whiskies from the US, Australia, Ireland and Japan.

Appropriate For: 

This course is appropriate for beginners to intermediate appreciators or those wanting to reinvigorate an interest in the water of life. We welcome anyone aged from 18 to 80+ years of age. All you need is an enthusiastic approach to learning about whisky.

^The Mystery Dram – Additional Offer

As part of this course we offer an additional whisky sample service of A Mystery Dram at the end of each class. A Mystery Dram voucher pack can be purchased as part of the original booking or you may return to the bookings page and purchase later, even if you have already started the course. At the end of each class completion you may opt to redeem a voucher for The Mystery Dram. These Mystery Drams will be unique and do not appear as part of the 20 whiskies being sampled during the course. We aim to ensure these whiskies deliver something different to the table or profile of what is being tasted at the corresponding class. All Mystery Drams will be served at the standard 15ml measure. We have some real cracker whiskies lined up so don't be the one who misses out!
