About Amber Joy Poulton & The Holy Men
Amber Joy Poulton, multi-awarded South Australian singer-songwriter and the star of touring production Coal Miner’s Daughter, invites you to the Mount Compass Supper Club to enjoy a night of country music entertainment with songs from Amber’s brand new album How It Used To Be & the classics by her idols Loretta Lynn, Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton and Tammy Wynette.
How It Used To Be is an album Amber Joy has created in the Western style of traditional country music, with all the nostalgic charm of a bygone-era. It was recorded in Nashville with ex-pat producer Sam Hawksley and studio sharp shooters from the same legendary outfits as her idols (who also contributed to her fourth album, Foolish Things).
“How it Used to be” is a revealing album and Amber’s third original offering that adds to her versatility alongside her two tribute albums. She has toured extensively throughout Australia & overseas with Nashville, Norfolk Island & the high seas aboard Cruisin Country for three extraordinary cruises as well as her yearly trek to Tamworth & country music festivals like Boyup Brook, Gympie Muster, Mildura, Horsham, Riverland & more but it's her touring the country with theatre show Coal Miner's Daughter that has garnered fans from every performance with her astounding ability to put down the songwriting cap & take on the role of Loretta Lynn in theatres all over Australia.
The Holy Men was formed around country music singer/songwriter Amber Joy Poulton to present her music cabaret show: Honky Tonk Angels – the Loretta Lynn Story. The band consolidated into a strong backing line-up for Amber Joy’s own shows and is the engine-room for Queens of Country which features Amber Joy, Sandra Humphries and Marie Hodson.
Regular Supper Club patrons will recognise well-known musician & singer Denis Surmon who is one of the Holy Men. He will be there on the night with his upright bass.
The evening will be a mixture of covers & originals. Amber Joy has promised to give the audience what it wants, always aiming to please & knowing that many people like to hear songs they know & love & which trigger a memory.
As with most music genre, “country” music is broad and varied and Amber Joy Poulton is an artist who demonstrates this so well. If you think you don’t like “country”, think again. Prepare yourself for one great night. See one great artist with a great backing team at one great venue – Mt Compass War Memorial Hall.
