About Dark Emu Dinner - Bruce Pascoe

THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT. For any further enquiries, please contact the event organiser.

Let the country speak its own quiet poetry as we gather for sunset beneath the ranges at Madigans, in the Alice Springs Desert Park.

Prepare for a feast of words and bush foods, featuring special festival guest Bruce Pascoe. Author of over 20 books, Bruce is a Bunurong, Tasmanian and Yuin man based in Victoria. Bruce’s recent book Dark Emu (Magabala Books 2014) won the Book of the Year as well as the Indigenous Writer’s Prize in the 2016 NSW Premier’s Literary Awards.

In Dark Emu Bruce draws on the diaries of early explorers as evidence that Aboriginal people were sowing, harvesting, irrigating and storing food.

Includes poetry readings and the short film Walk To Gather Learn To Gather, courtesy of Kanyirninpa Jukurrpa.

Catered by Kungkas Can Cook, with native foods collected from country. The dinner menu will feature bushfood-infused vegetarian and meat dishes set out in share platters on each table so that guests can make their own selection. Ingredients in each dish will be listed on menu cards displayed with each platter. Please note that individual dietary requirements or food intolerances beyond vegetarian options are not able to be catered for in the menu.

Evidence of your concession entitlement (a valid Health Care, Seniors or Tertiary Student card) or current NTWC membership will need to be presented on arrival at the event. To become an NTWC member please visit http://www.ntwriters.com.au/membership/
