Presentation of Sixteen Legs with the filmmaker and scientist Dr Niall Doran and cave diver and 2019 joint Australian of the year Dr Richard Harris as guest speakers.
Dr Richard Harris SC OAM is a diver with 30 years’ experience and a specialist in aeromedical retrieval. In 2018 Richard was leaving for a cave-diving holiday when he received the call for help in the infamous Thai Cave Rescue. Under great pressure and putting his own life at risk, he swam through the narrow cave system to assess the health of those trapped, giving the medical all-clear for each evacuee, and administering an anaesthetic to each of them within the cave to facilitate their rescue. Richard was key to the rescue’s success, showing character, determination and courage, and staying until the last person was safe.
Light supper and beverages will be available to purchase on the evening, strictly no BYO.
From The Heart Film Festival is about sharing and telling stories in a way that connects us as an Island community and also connects us to the wider world, and aims to act as a catalyst for content generation that is meaningful and impactful.
