About Special Time at Chipmunks
This event will be hosted by Chipmunks Mandurah Alana Walsh (senior occupational therapist), from Kern Health Group / Kern 4 Kids will offer a free support session to parents of children with all kinds of special needs. The children will be under the supervision in our indoor playcentre by volunteers from matchworks.
This will be a sensory friendly event and open to all public, and a free event but “free tickets” need to be gained online so we can prepare for the event and have an idea of how many people will attend.
The event was made possible by the City of Mandurah who provided a grant to our Playcentre to hold these free support sessions for parents. We are also collaborating with the Autism Association WA on this event. The event will start at 10am where Alana will speak on the topic while the kids play in the playcentre.
The presentation will go for about an hour whereafter parents and guardians can ask questions. The children can stay and play as long as they like.
Event Topic: Managing Behaviours
Managing behaviours - we all have behaviours, things we do for various reasons whether it be to express an unmet need, expressing emotions, doing something to help us stay engaged or something we do as a way of communicating. In this time we will explore different behaviours, the whys behind them and ways in which to manage those behaviours by addressing the why behind them.
