About APRIL: Kelly Menhennett and The Coconut Kids
ONLINE TICKETING HAS NOW CLOSED. For any further enquiries please contact the event organiser.
Fresh from her performance at WOMADelaide, Kelly is a national award winning singer songwriter of the soul/roots/alt-country variety, a captivating live performer and a voice once compared to a cross between Erma Franklin and Etta James.
In late 2010, Kelly released her debut album “World Of Mine”, receiving great response by fans and media and named one of the top 10 albums for 2011 by Rhythms magazine’s Sue Barrett. Her songwriting and performance skill has also seen her win multiple SCALA (Songwriters, Composers And Lyricists Association) awards.
Kelly’s most recent, 2nd album, "Small Dreams", was recorded live over 3 days in Mr Lemons Studio in Nashville with producer Neilson Hubbard and an all-star band including the likes of Carl Broemel (My Morning Jacket) and Kim Richey. In contrast to her first album, Small Dreams is a little darker, a little dirtier and focuses more on her love of Americana music, which has inspired her for a lifetime. Also well received by fans and media, Small Dreams was named a top 3 release by Rhythms Magazine.
The Coconut Kids
Infectiously fun, The Coconut Kids defy genres to create French-influenced world folk using ukulele, brass, bass, keys, violin, percussion and some damn powerful vocals. Their unique sound will have you dancing carefree one minute and a blubbering mess the next. (Sounds fun right?)
As well as instigating the curious and effervescent pop-up event ‘The Coconut Club’, these kids have also dallied in the Australian festival circuit and had their international debut at South by South West 2017 (SXSW) in Austin, Texas. Now fresh off the stage of their Adelaide Fringe show Aussie Aussie Aussie! Oui! Oui! Oui! - a frenchification of Aussie pub classics – they can’t wait to get down to some Coco chaos at the Stone Pony.
