A Merri Mash of Brewers starring Old Wives Ales, Co-Conspirators Brewing Co & Two Cities Brewing

The Woodlands Hotel proudly welcomes Old Wives Ales, Co-Conspirators Brewing Co and Two Cities Brewing for our Sixth episode of our very popular Welcome to the Woods Dinner Series.

Join us as we take you on a 5 course magical journey through beer and food matching. Enjoy a story from the brewers or a brewery representative, as they rotate around the tables for each course, telling tales and spinning yarns about beers and brewery life.

All members of The Merri Mashers Home Brew club these 3 brewing companies have embarked on brewing the dream and boy are they doing a great job, lets meet them:

Old Wives Ales:

It started the way most adventures start. With a spark of curiosity and a beer in the hand. And so it was for us, Old Wives Ales founders Nathan Keatch, Mattias Isaksson, Justin Spicer and Shannon Brooks.

Starting out as home-brewers, we commandeered soup pots for kit brews and watched on as plastic tubs of murky liquid burped and bubbled in our sheds. It was yellow, it was fizzy, but it wasn’t good. Not in the beginning. But we were learning. We have each earned a first-rate home-brewing education in exploding bottles, dead yeast and beer that tasted more like cardboard than malt, taking heart from the fact that slowly but surely, the beer was getting better.

We replaced the soup pots with stainless steel German systems and started entering competitions. We picked up some awards and family and friends who once turned their nose up at our dodgy brews, were suddenly asking us how they could get their hands on more of our porters, IPAs and wheat beers.

It became obvious that between the four of us, we had the makings of a perfect brewing team. We simply couldn’t resist having a crack at sharing our brews with more people like you.

Co-Conspirators Brewing Co:

Four people, two couples, one conspiracy: to make great beer.

The brainchild of two couples – Jacqui Sacco, Tim Martin, Maggie and Deon Smit, the origins of Co-Conspirators Brewing Company started off as hobby, but quickly became an obsession.

We met at the Merri Mashers homebrew club through the great conduit of craft beer. Along the way we educated our palettes by exploring local and international craft beers of every style and challenging ourselves to recreate our favourites. As our confidence grew and mixed with a healthy dose of curiosity this soon was replaced with building our own recipes. At the same time brewing started to take over our houses with simple beer kits brewed on the kitchen sink turning into full blown all-grain home brew setups that took over the entire garage.

After enjoying the success of winning several home brew competitions, we were given the exciting opportunity to re-brew our beloved recipes on a commercial scale. After seeing our beers being enjoyed in the hands of the public, the seed (grain) was planted and over a celebratory pint it was decided - we were starting our own brewing company.

Two Cities Brewing:

We are proud gypsy brewers with a passion for making and sharing fresh, tasty beer...

Starting out as the crazy idea of two brothers and best mates trying to overcome the tyranny of distance resulting from living on opposite sides of the Bass Strait, a shared love of beer and brewing led us to the obvious...we needed to start a brewing company!

Having launched in Hobart in 2016 and currently continuing to brew with and learn from awesome industry friends in Tassie, over the 17/18 summer we're super excited to bring our beers to the drinkers of Melbourne for the first time

First course will be served at 7pm sharp and we are aiming to have everything wrapped up 10.00pm.

Tables will be communal. If you are purchasing tickets in different groups please e-mail hayden_george@thewoodlands.com.au and let him know which ticket groups need to sit together and we will be able to accommodate you.
