About Thunderbelly: The Musical
A quirky gangster-spoof musical set in 1920's Sydneywith a surprise - uninvited - guest, just to make it interesting! Based loosely around the razor gang wars of Sydney in the 20’s when Tilly Devine and Kate Leigh were in fierce competition as Queens of the underworld.
Our characters are fictitious – and seriously ridiculous. There is a new gangster in town – Karl Williams [yes a parody of the modern one! We are taking artistic licence and bringing him in on a time warp] - who has designs on the gals territory. Add to this trio a dubious henchman, pair of tricksters in disguise, a trio of tarts with no heart, an ambitious copper with sticky fingers, a creative bookkeeper, a hard-sell moonshiner, a snitch for hire ... plus a few odd characters that fell off the back of a pick-up truck.......and you have the ingredients for community theatre at its wackiest!!
Written, Produced, Directed by Maureen O’Brien with help from a heap of other willing participants, this production pushes the boundaries of reality into the twilight zone – or perhaps a new vat of Hop’s Special Brew!
