About The Australian Doctors Orchestra presents Music from Moscow

The Australian Doctors Orchestra (ADO) is a unique national fellowship of medical professionals who are also classically trained musicians. The not-for-profit Orchestra plays public concerts across Australia, and concert proceeds benefit selected charities.

On the 19th June 2016 the ADO will perform ‘Music from Moscow’ at the Darwin Convention Centre. The concert will feature Darwin Symphony Orchestra’s Chief Conductor and Artistic Director Matthew Wood as conductor and Veronique Serret as solo violinist. Veronique has established herself as a versatile musician whose repertoire ranges from baroque to contemporary classical, folk, rock and improvisation. She has worked with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Sydney Dance Company, Sydney Symphony Orchestra and she was a founding member of the band CODA.

The ADO will perform Shostakovich Symphony No 5 and Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto. The audience will also be treated to an overture written especially for the concert by local Darwin ADO member Dr Cathy Applegate called ‘Dysdiadochokinesis’.

Doctors performing in the concert will travel from around Australia to play at the event. Members of the ADO donate their time and cover their own accommodation and flight costs to enable all proceeds from their concerts to go to a local charity. The ADO has chosen local not for profit organisation Anglicare NT to be the recipient of funds raised from the Darwin concert. All funds raised from the ADO concert will go to Anglicare NT's Pandanus Childbirth Education and Perinatal Support Program.

Anglicare NT is a longstanding provider of quality services across urban, regional and remote areas and member of Anglicare Australia. Anglicare NT works with individuals, families and the community and aims to make a sustainable difference in the lives of Territorians. The Pandanus Program offers free birth education and parenting support to young people aged 25 years and under.
