About Sheffield Shield: NSW v VIC
The NSW Blues will open their 2021-22 Marsh Sheffield Shield campaign against traditional rivals, Victoria, at Sydney’s Drummoyne Oval from October 27-30.
After a series of false starts caused by COVID-related restrictions and border closures, this much-anticipated clash will be the first of the summer for both NSW and Victoria, as both sets of players look to impress during an Ashes Summer.
The Blues squad for this match, to be led by captain and Test batsman Kurtis Patterson, is set to feature Australian spinner Nathan Lyon, star all-rounder Sean Abbott, prolific top-order batter Daniel Hughes, experienced keeper Peter Nevill, and ageless seamer Trent Copeland.
Standing in the way of Phil Jaques’ men at the picturesque Drummoyne Oval will be a Victorian outfit captained by Test batsman Peter Handscomb, and set to include international Nic Maddinson, reigning Bradman Young Cricketer of the Year Will Sutherland, batter Travis Dean, keeper Seb Gotch and seamer Scott Boland.
With Greater Sydney recently raising the bat on over 100 days in lockdown, there is no better way to enjoy the state’s re-opening than getting along to Drummoyne Oval to watch domestic cricket rivals, NSW and Victoria go head-to-head in their long-awaited 2021-22 Marsh Sheffield Shield opener.
Note – as per the NSW Government Public Health Order, the venue capacity will be 1,500 spectators per day, and spectators 16+ must be fully vaccinated or have a medical contraindication certificate to enter the venue. We ask that if you are feeling unwell, please stay at home.
