About Festival Opening

Please join us in the gardens for the official opening of the 2020 NT Writers Festival - Darwin.

We’ll be kicking-off our four-day festival shaped by place with a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony by Larrakia elder, Bilawara Lee and family. The festivities continue with a selection of readings by guest and local writers including the Gay’wu Group of Women, Mirandi Riwoe and more. From here, we turn our thoughts towards our 2020 program theme, Gunamidirra garawa birditj, Larrakia for When the tides turn.


Ticket revenue covers less than 15% of the cost of running the NT Writers Festival. Each year we keep tickets prices accessible and include free programs for the community.
