About Festival Opening

Head to the front lawns of the Museum and Art Gallery of the NT as the sun sets over the sparkling sea at Fannie Bay to celebrate the official opening of the 2022 NT Writers Festival. Larrakia Elder Bilawara Lee and family open four days of books, culture and ideas on the theme of balarr | catching the light with a Welcome to Country and traditional smoking ceremony.

Then a brilliant selection of local and interstate writers, including Delia Falconer, Jackie Huggins, Karen Manton and Jasmin McGaughey treat audiences to readings, while local musicians bring proceedings to a close with sweet melodies performed in the open air.

Ticket revenue covers less than 15% of the cost of running the NT Writers Festival. Each year we keep tickets prices accessible and include free programs for the community.
