About ONLINE EVENT: Author Q&A - Laniyuk
Laniyuk is a writer and poet who grew up in dilapidated public housing in Anula. Back before air-con was commonplace and Casuarina got fancy, she fell asleep to the sounds of monsoonal rain, frogs and geckos and wrote poetry in her backyard. She is the daughter of local blues legend Robert Mills and granddaughter of Darwin’s own Poetic Treasure Aunty Kathy Mills. Following in the footsteps of her political family, she centeres her writing around the fight for Country, Culture and Aboriginal self-determination. She is currently living in Melbourne, but no matter how many years she lives in the south she’ll never call another place home or acclimatise to winter. She is currently completing her first collection, forthcoming with Magabala Books. Join her online for this Author Q&A.
