Canadian indigenous producers/DJ crew A Tribe Called Red bring their incredible Electric Pow-wow dance party to Bellingen NSW’s Memorial Hall on Friday 27 November, presented by Seth Jordan.

Having created a truly unique sound that’s strongly impacting the global electronic scene and urban club cultures since 2010 this exciting First Nations group has been mixing traditional native pow-wow vocals and drumming with cutting-edge electronic music and vibrant video projections. Gathering both critical and popular acclaim, they have established themselves as a cultural force to be reckoned with, bridging politics and dance music.

Their two albums to date – 2012’s self-titled release, followed by 2013’s ‘Nation II Nation’ - were both nominated for Canada’s prestigious Polaris Music Prize, with ‘Nation’ being listed as one of the Washington Post’s Top 10 Albums of the Year. The band also won several awards at the 2013 Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards, including Best Group and Best Album. In 2014, they garnered two Juno Award nominations (Canada’s version of the ARIAs/Grammys) for Electronic Album of the Year and Breakthrough Group of the Year, which they won. As producers they have recently collaborated with legendary Cree folk singer Buffy Sainte-Marie, as well as NY hip-hop crew Das Racist and American rapper Angel Haze.

Based in Ottawa, Ontario, A Tribe Called Red consists of three DJs: Ian "DJ NDN" Campeau (of the Ojibway/Nipissing First Nation), Bear Witness (Cayuga/Six Nations) and Tim "2oolman" Hill (Mohawk/Six Nations). The group’s live performances also feature indigenous dancer James Jones, who blends traditional hoop dancing with modern break dance.

A Tribe Called Red have toured extensively across Canada and the USA, as well as performing festival dates in the UK, France, Germany, Norway and Greece. This is their first Australian tour, and will include a headlining appearance at the Sydney Opera House’s indigenous festival ‘Homeground’.
