About Translation & Two Ways
Shania Miller, Carol Robertson, Glenda Robertson and Greg Dickson work with Meigim Kriol Strongbala (Make Kriol Strong) – a program from Ngukurr community supporting Kriol education. In 2019 they translated Too Many Cheeky Dogs into Kriol, released by Allen & Unwin in June this year under its Kriol title Bigismob Jigiwan Dog, becoming the first Indigenous language translation of any English title to be released by a major publisher. Kriol is a vibrant language spoken by 20,000 people across Northern Australia but in terms of Kriol literacy and literature, the language is in its infancy. Join Shania, Carol and Greg for a one of a kind conversation about the challenges and decision-making that goes into translating texts into Kriol and why books like these are so important.
