IDAHOBIT DAY 2018
IDAHOBIT day was created in 2004 to draw the attention of policymakers, opinion leaders, social movements, the public and the media to the violence and discrimination experienced by LGBTI people internationally.
The date of May 17th was specifically chosen to commemorate the World Health Organization’s decision in 1990 to declassify homosexuality as a mental disorder.
The Day represents an annual landmark to draw the attention and awareness to the alarming situation faced by lesbian, gay, bisexuals, transgender and intersex people and all those who do not conform to majority sexual and gender norms. In Australia 75% of LGBTQI+ people’s face some form of discrimination in their lives, and are nearly four times more likely to experience depression in their lives.
The United Nations Association of Australia Western Australia, partnering with Pride WA invite professionals to join us for a cocktail event to celebrate and support the LGBTQI+ community. With engaging guest speakers and beverages supplied we aim to create an enjoyable, educating campaign.
