About 40 Year Old Pop Star
40 Year Old Pop Star tells the story of a mum who leaves her job as the Sydney Opera House nurse, where she attends to international superstars who have headaches, and returns to the tiny country town where she was born, to pursue her pop career. Once arrived in this Wheatbelt town, which is more or less in the middle of nowhere, she acquires a few headaches of her own: like where is an audience that is not comprised of cows? How is she going to buy milk on a Sunday when all the shops are closed? Do you drink the champagne that is passed around at 11am at play group?
In this one hour tour de force of original stories and songs for The York Festival, Alli Butler a stand-up comedian, singer-songwriter, nurse and 40 year old mum, who refuses to inject her face with Botox (this week), gives a hilarious self-portrait of her trajectory towards stardom amongst the sheep, cows and canola.
With special guest local York comedian Nola Bliss.
