About Unheard Stories Film Festival

This unique film festival spotlights Deaf and hard of hearing storytellers to explore and celebrate their experiences.  It aims to raise awareness of the challenges faced by the deaf community.  There are 4 films, all with subtitles and two also have Auslan.

Hear Me Out (run time 9 minutes)
Documentary focuses on the experiences of Sue Walters and Jackson Tait who came to have cochlear implants.

Winner at London Independent Film Awards 2021.

Amplify This! (run time 16 minutes)
Showcasing the diversity of lived experience by spotlighting nine individuals, this Australian short explores the issues of identity, access and belonging for people who are Deaf and people who have hearing loss.  Auslan

Deafying Gravity (run time 14 minutes)
Deaf queer aerial performer Katia Schwartz reflects on life, identity and her extraordinary career in this compelling documentary.   Deafying Gravity premiered at the Sydney Film Festival in 2021.

We Hear You (run time 40 minutes)
We Hear You depicts the stigmas and challenges of living with hearing loss. Executive produced by three women with hearing loss, the documentary was conceived, filmed and directed across two continents, all during the COVID-19 pandemic.  Auslan

We Hear You was a winner at the Cannes World Film Festival 2021, this is a Western Australian premiere.
