Aaron West multi-instrumentalist
LIVES the BLUES, FEELS the BLUES, PLAYS the BLUES. Raised in country New South Wales, Aaron began playing guitar at age 10 after being inspired by Stevie Ray Vaughan. After starting his professional career during high school, he then attended the Conservatorium of Music on both jazz guitar and jazz vocals, before lending his expertise to teaching.
Since then, Aaron has done everything a musician can do – playing thousands of gigs throughout the world, studio session work, singing jingles for TV and radio, and of course leading his own band who are comprised of some of Australia’s finest session musicians. where they play the legendary African American styles of soul, blues, funk, jazz, gospel, R&B and especially the music of New Orleans. Drawing inspiration from the greatest artists in soul, rhythm & blues, jazz, gospel and funk. The band members are life-long students of music, embodying a level of dedication to their craft that sets them apart.
Wil Sargisson - piano.
Wil began piano lessons at age 5 in his home town of Napier New Zealand and his journey into Jazz. Now based on the Gold Coast, Wil is possibly the southern hemisphere’s finest proponent of boogie woogie, stride, and New Orleans-style piano. He is a pianists’ pianist, playing with some of the world’s best ivory ticklers and is a member of Galapagos Duck.
Dave Longo - guitar.
Dave is a freelance guitarist, producer, recording and mix engineer and has spent the last 26 years in Sydney performing around town with various pop, funk bands, duo’s, jazz ensembles and doing studio work forging musical collaborations that keeps him in demand.
James Sandon - saxophone/drums.
James started playing the drums and saxophone when he was six and has added guitar and bass to his list of instruments. Currently lecturer in Saxophone at Queensland conservatorium at Griffith University. James plays a variety of genres, that include cabaret, rock, pop, blues, soul, R&B, latin, and jazz. He has performed internationally in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Atlanta, Hawaii, Beijing, Hong Kong, Singapore, India, New Zealand and all major capital cities of Australia.
Matt Smith - guitar.
Matt is an Australian jazz guitarist who started his musical journey when he was 5 on the piano but his passion was the guitar, so desperate being told his hands were too small for the guitar, he eventually got his way and had his first guitar for his 8th birthday. He is most widely known as the guitarist in the Australian rock pop band Thirsty Merc and plays for Sydney afro beat/reggae band The Strides.
Aaron and his band have put together a collection of some of the all-time Greatest Blues Song that have stood the test of time from the inception of the Blues in the latter 1800’s to the present day.
