As the internet is here to stay it is importation we teach our kids resilience, digital ethics and how to stay safe. Parenting in the Digital Age is not about banning your child from using a smart phone or apps but rather helps parents to teach their children how to safely navigate the virtual world.

Parenting in the Digital Age seminars run for about 1 hour and cover the following topics:

- The 10 easy steps to a Cyber Safety Plan to protect your child online

- Ways in which kids are connecting and how to monitor their use

- Social media platforms & apps being used, how to use them safely & what the real risks are

- What is cyberbullying, how is it being done and what to do if you child experiences it

- Top 5 tips for what to do if you discover your child has acted inappropriately online

- What is “sexting”, how to try to prevent it and what to do if your child is involved

- Teaching children to be better cyber citizens and ensure their digital footprint does not prevent future employment.

- Advice often given to parents revolves around “know what your child is doing online” but offers no practical starting point for parents.

Skye McPhee, Pathways to Protection’s Cyber Safety Consultant, believes that it is often forgotten that just as this is the first generation of teens growing up online, this is also the first generation of parents facing the problem of keeping them safe. Parenting in a Digital Age aims to help address the lack of practical advice to parents so they can be armed with information to protect their child.
