About Into the Light
The Opera and Song Collective, featuring some of Sydney's finest singers is presenting a programme of hidden gems, 'Into the Light' to celebrate emerging from the darkness and silence of our recent Lockdown. We present for your interest, enjoyment and entertainment a selection of opera and songs not so commonly heard, including ensembles from Gluck to Dvořák, Janáček, Mozart and Heggie with pianist Sharolyn Kimmorley and guest flautist, Christine Draeger who plays Mentieth by Australian composer Colin Brumby.
We invite you to enjoy our inaugural concert of selections of works you can look forward to hearing more of in our concert programmes to come in 2022.
Enjoy a complimentary drink on arrival then settle back in the delightful Grand Hall of the Mosman Art Gallery to enjoy beautiful music from Gluck’s Iphigénie en Aulide, with Susie Bishop as Iphigénie, Margaret Trubiano as Clytemnestre, Gavin Brown as Achille and Tristan Entwistle as Agamemnon. From the eighteenth century we step forward to the twentieth in a heart rending duet from Heggie’s America masterpiece, Dead Man Walking. We then take you to Prague to feast on delicious treats from Mozart’s Prague opera, Don Giovanni and beyond into the woods of Bohemia and Moravia where Rachael Cunningham sings the Vixen’s aria from Janáček’s Cunning Little Vixen followed by a segment of Dvořák with Annabelle Chaffey as Rusalka, Emily Turner, Susie Bishop and Margaret Trubiano as the Trio of Wood Sprites who playing tease Tom Hamilton, Vodnik the Water Goblin and Jill Sullivan appears as the witch, Ježibaba.
