About From Alice to Mparntwe
Alice Springs is built on Arrernte country, at a place called Mparntwe, belonging to the Mparntwe-arenye people. Doris Stuart Kngwarreye, Apmereke – artwye (traditional custodian) for Mparntwe, would like to invite writers and storytellers to join her and her friends for afternoon tea in the very heart of her country.
Gather in a significant place of celebration, compromise and caretaking, and journey from Alice to Mparntwe, hearing about Country through Doris’ eyes. This collaborative storytelling event incorporates Arrernte students from the Alice Springs Language Centre and friends from the Alice Springs Landcare group.
Ticket revenue covers less than 15% of the cost of running the NT Writers Festival. Each year we keep tickets prices accessible and include free programs for the community.
